Electric Scooters for Adults - Compare the Specs
Hey Canada! This section helps you compare the features of these products to help you choose the best option for you! Click on the product name to jump down to that specific review.
Price
Everyone wants a good price - but if you're looking for a cheap electric scooter, you'll just end up with a toy. As technology increases and batteries become cheaper, prices will come down. For now, however, a decent electric scooter for adults will cost more than $500, and all the way up to $1200. The higher the price, the longer the range and the more powerful the motor the electric scooter will be equipped with.
Range
If you need a long range, then the best electric scooter for commuting will be the Segway Ninebot Max - it has a huge 65 km range! Everything else falls in line underneath that, with the cheapest scooters having a 15 or 16km range. Even with a short range, however, they can still be a useful electric scooter for commuting - as long as your commute is equally short.
Top Speed
Speed is mostly for thrills. There are a few cases where high speed is needed for safety (if you are commuting amongst traffic), or high speed might be needed if your commute is a long, flat, abandoned road through farm country. Higher speed will get you there faster.
Weight
Electric scooter weight can be a problem if there are sections of your commute that require you to carry your scooter - up and down steps in a park or to a subway, or even the last bit into your office or classroom. The biggest factor in the weight of an electric scooter for adults is the battery size. And, of course, the larger the battery pack, the longer the range. What does that mean? It means if you are looking for a lightweight electric scooter, don't expect to get much range out of it. On the other hand, if you need a long range, expect to end up with a heavy electric scooter.
Motor
A more powerful motor typically means a faster top speed, and it always means a more exciting ride with quicker acceleration!

Segway Ninebot Max Canada Reviews
Wirecutter ranked it as the #2 on their list claiming it was the 'Upgrade Pick' in their product review. [December 2021]
The same as their top pick electric scooter (the Ninebot Kickscooter G30LP), except the MAX has a much longer range.
Segway Ninebot G30LP
Very similar to the G30P MAX above, this is the cheaper model. It has only about 2/3 the range, but you can also get it for a few hundred dollars less!
With 220lb weight limit and the ability to climb a 20% incline, this is the best electric scooter for people that need less than a 40km range.

Razor E Prime III Electric Scooter
From the bran that started it all with the original Razor scooter, this electric scooter isn't that great for adults unless your commute is short.
But it is less expensive than others with a longer range, so we could see this being the best electric scooter for an adult in Canada with a short, relatively level commute.

Wirecutter ranked it as the #5 on their list claiming it was the 'Competition' in their product review. [May 2020]
The specs say this electric scooter delivers up to 15 miles per charge, but in testing they only managed to get 8 miles to a charge. They don't recommend it for commuting, but call it a nice toy.
Razor E Prime Air Electric Scooter
Identical to the Razor E Prime in almost every way, the main difference is tat this scooter has large 8" tires - the front is air-filled for a smoother ride, and the rear is a flat-free tire to help soften rough terrain. We guess that's why it's called the Prime Air.
This e-scooter also has an adjustable height handlebar, and has a slightly higher weight capacity than the Prime - up from 175lbs to 200 lbs maximum rider weight.

Razor E Prime Electric Scooter
One of the cheapest entries in our writeup, this electric scooter is the only one with adjustable handlebars. That sort of puts it into the 'toy' category, except that this scooter has decent range and speed, and if you're a shorter rider you might find the other scooters too tall.

Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter - M365
Initial reviews gave the Xiaomi Mi scooter a bad name because of a poorly designed clip. The aluminum clip is what keeps the scooter in the unfolded position, and the clip was weak and would actually stretch and caused safety concerns. Xiaomi has implemented a fix on that clip so it's no longer a concern.

T3 ranked it as the #1 on their list claiming it was the 'Best Electric Scooter' in their product review. [August 2020]
They like the features of this reasonably priced electric scooter, but they don't like how it looks.
Wirecutter ranked it as the #3 on their list claiming it was the 'Competition, but not recommended' in their product review. [August 2020]
Wirecutter took issue to a noise it was hearing in the handlebar pivot assembly which led them to be concerned about the safety of the scooter. Xiaomi has said it has fixed the problem since.
XPRIT Electric Scooter
A great overall scooter in the medium price range. It's built out of metal, and it's durable with a big disc brake. Keep in mind it's only a mid-tier scooter, so there's no suspension, no phone app, and there are more quality control complaints (but the company seems to respond and deal with them promptly).
Designed for riders up to 220 lbs, this electric Xprit scooter Canada can climb 11 degree inclines effortlessly. Quick charging gets you back out and riding in 2 to 3 hours.
The tires are large, 10" anti-slip solid rubber, and it's equipped with a rear disc brake.
3 speeds allow you to select eco, comfort, or sport driving modes.

Features to look for in an Electric Scooter for Adults Canada
The hardest part in your decision while looking for the best electric scooter for adults is the features you want. Range, scooter weight, and scooter top speed is easy – it depends on how far you need to commute and where your commute takes you.
When it comes to things like quick charging, regenerative braking, headlights and taillights, the decision becomes less clear.
Electric Scooter battery packs
As battery technology improves, the range of electric scooters will increase. In addition, the cost will go down, and likely the weight of the scooters will go down as well – the battery pack is one of the heaviest parts of the scooter.
We are now seeing large companies like LG and Samsung (read on Samsung.com) get into the market with li-ion battery packs.
