At this price point, it seemed too good to be true, so Canada Reviewed bought one from NeQuare and tested the cordless vacuum out. As it turns out, it was true – this is a great budget cordless vacuum with a great price!

Don’t let the price fool you, though, these are great for quick little cleanups and they’re nice and light for getting little hands helping vacuum around the house.

Upgraded over the previous version, this budget cordless vacuum model comes with an extendable metal stick that makes the vacuum the right length for kids and adults of different heights, and the redesigned battery is easily removable so if you need a longer runtime, you can have a second one charging while you vacuum with the first.

NeQuare Cordless Vacuum Review

For around $200, there is only so many things you can expect from a cordless vacuum. After all, some of the top of the line Dyson Cordless Vacuum models in Canada cost about $1000 more! But this vacuum from NeQuare isn’t just a great price, it also has some great features typically only found on more expensive cordless stick vacuums. Read on for our NeQuare cordless vacuum review.

Power head with LED lights

Many budget cordless vacuums don’t come with a powered head, which makes them useless for any sort of carpet cleaning – beyond picking up surface chunks. This cordless stick vacuum comes with a powered head that gives your carpets a light beating to dislodge deeper debris.

The cleaning head even comes with an LED headlight. It’s great for seeing dirt in hard-to-reach areas, but it also showed us how dirty we let it get under our beds. That little LED lights up all the hair and dust bunnies hiding in the dark corners of your house!

Adjustable length vacuum tube

The vacuum tube has a simple push-to-adjust white ring which is easy enough for even little hands to operate. By pushing the white collar down, the length of the metal tube can be adjusted to the perfect length. It works great for our littlest kid to set it to the shortest setting, and us adults can use it at the long setting.

2 speed motor/suction power

With 2 different suction power settings, if you don’t require extra suction, you can leave it on the lower 12kpa suction setting to get up to 40 minutes of battery run time. For larger chunks (like dirt clumps by the back door or rice under the table), simply push the button on the back of the vacuum (by your thumb) and the suction kicks up to 25kpa. Keep in mind that battery life and runtime at that power goes down to about 15 minutes.

Easy to clean

A simple to empty dustbin keeps suction power to a maximum. The quickest method is to simply unclick the bottom of the dustbin and let the debris fall out into the garbage.

For a more thorough clean, you can rotate-to-remove the dustbin from the rest of the cordless vacuum. That gives you access to the paper filter and the cyclone system. If you need to keep vacuuming, you can knock the dust out of the cyclones and swap out the filter/sponge with the extra one that comes in the box.

Once you’re done cleaning, you can wash the dustbin, the cyclone pieces and the paper filter/sponge. Just make sure they’re completely dry before vacuuming again or you’ll end up with mud.

Convenient Storage

The NeQuare cordless stick vacuum has a power head with a secure click that puts it into the 90 degree position. This allows you to stand up the vacuum anywhere you want.

If you want to mount it to the wall, you can do that too as the vacuum comes with a wall-mount bracket.

What we don’t like

There’s a push-to-click button to detach the handle from the metal tube to convert to a handheld vacuum. On our vacuum it’s easy to push the button, but it’s difficult to detach the tube from the main vacuum body. It doesn’t seem to be because there is dirt wedged inbetween, and actually a tight seal is good so that no suction power is lost because of a poor fit.

Also, when the vacuum motor is removed from the stick, there seems to be a spot inside the metal tube, because of the expand/contract function, that protrudes just enough to catch long hairs on it. It adds a bit of an extra step to cleaning the vacuum as you have to try and pull those hairs out of the tube. If you were to leave the metal stick attached all the time, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Hair gets stuck on some of the adjustable vacuum stick assembly.

Inside the vacuum dustbin, there is a flap door that is supposed to stay shut. When the suction is on, the door is pulled open, allowing debris to enter the dustbin. When suction is turned off, this door is supposed to fall closed, keeping debris from falling back out of the dustbin.

This door on the dustbin sometimes gets stuck open with debris

It seems that depending on what debris has been vacuumed up, this little door will sometimes become tangled with hairs and not fall closed. This has meant rice and cheerios have fallen out of the dustbin when we detach the stick to convert to a handheld vacuum.

The Final Verdict

Despite these few issues, the NeQuare cordless stick vacuum is still an overall great product – especially when taking cost into consideration. The parts that matter – the vacuum motorhead, the powerful suction, the battery life – perform better than expected.

If these little naggles sound like a hassle, you might be looking at a higher quality vacuum that costs hundreds of dollars more.

6 Month Update and Warranty Claim

After about 6 months of using this vacuum daily, we had an issue. This vacuum lives in our playroom and the kids will grab it whenever there is something that needs a quick clean up. From our 5 year old using it to vacuum the entry way, to our older kids vacuuming up pencil shavings or under the kitchen table, this vacuum has seen some less-than-gentle use.

And it’s performed great every time. Even though the battery hasn’t been taken care of, the kids will use it for a bit and then plug it in, or they will leave it dead, and then plug it in for a bit and then go and use it before it’s fully charged, the battery still has great life. This budget cordless vacuum just keeps going and going.

Until the other day, when after a minute or so of use, the light on the back of the cordless stick vacuum would flash and then the suction motor would shut off, followed by the power-head motor a few seconds later. Then the light would go on solid red for a few seconds before shutting off.

It seemed that running on ‘normal’ suction this would happen, but running on turbo mode the vacuum wouldn’t have the same trouble so I immediately suspected an electronics issue.

A quick email to NeQuare, and I had a response within 24 hours asking me to send a short video of the issue and my Amazon order number. I sent the email, and received another email back quite promptly with some troubleshooting steps.

Dear Customer,
I’m very sorry for the inconvenience.
After checking the blockage, proceed to the troubleshooting below.
1) Please connect the main motor with the Crevice nozzle, and check whether the nozzle works properly.
If the nozzle works properly, the- main motor and the battery are normal.
2) Use the main motor to connect the floor brush directly (Do not connect the long rod in the middle) and observe whether it works normally. If not, the floor brush fails.

3)Please try to remove the dust cup filter and extension tube, and only connect the battery to the motor, to see if the motor will automatically shut down after starting.

This tests the battery and motor for faults.

Looking forward to your reply.
Best regards!
After following the steps, I narrowed the problem down to the motor/head unit. No matter what attachment was or wasn’t attached, I was experiencing the same issue.
So, I tried their last troubleshooting step – I ran the vacuum without the filter cup attached (in a clean area so as not to suck in a bunch of dirt through the motor/suction blades). And no issue! Uh oh- what about the dust cup was causing an error?
Nervously, I opened up the dust cup and removed the paper filter – to find it almost completely blocked with a layer of dirt and hair. No wonder the vacuum was sensing a lack of suction problem and turning off the motor!
I put in the new/extra filter that came in the box and put the vacuum together. Immediately, I could hear a difference in the suction power and motor speed, and I didn’t have the power-down issue anymore.
Slightly embarrassed (that I hadn’t thought to check the filter) and also relieved, I emailed NeQuare support back to let them know I had solved the issue!
We still like and recommend this budget cordless vacuum, and it seems that the warranty support is decent as well.
